Open ended informal session

We are all aware that work related to promotion and protection of human rights requires effective, different and innovative mechanisms. We have worked very closely with the sub-commission. The sub-commission-facilitated standard setting was a think-tank, promoting the various dimensions related to our engagements for the promotion and protection of Human Rights.Independent Experts were able to liase with states, the NGO community and the UN staff to expand and broaden mechanism and develop frameworks and through studies undertaken by independent experts Significant contributions were made by the independent experts and thorough studies undertaken. Special mention should be made, particularly for taking initiatives in the area of descent and work based discrimination. It is important therefore to review the work of the sub-commission with appreciation. We wish to urge the activities are crucial to be continued. We wish to express appreciation to all efforts taken to make the work of the Human Rights Council effective and meaningful. It is our fervent hope that the reforms will facilitate the work of human rights defenders rather than to the serve the preservation of the status quo.
